The Gaborone giants showed intent from the opening minutes as they constantly attacked the home defence and closed quickly when they lost possession.
Miscellaneous were the first to find the back of the net in the 32nd minute after Godwin Bonsu fouled Mponang Mponang just outside the 18-yard box.
From the resulting free kick, Kelepile Terata took a curler far from the goalkeeper into the left corner.
GU continued their persistent play and Karabo Phiri sent in a cross from the left wing and Benson Shilongo headed home to equal matters before the first half whistle. Two minutes from recess, Karabo Phiri sent the GU faithful into jubilation.
Obonye Maome whipped in a low cross from the right and Shilongo missed, but the ball fell to Phiri at the far end who controlled and slotted coolly from an awkward angle to make it 2-1.
In the 77th minute, the troublesome pintsized Maome got reward for his man of the match display as Shilongo set him up with a back heal.
He controlled and shuffled the defender before he powered a shot into the near post to put the game to bed.
Shilongo missed two glorious opportunities afterwards, but the game was a closed chapter. The Gaborone giants took the foot off the accelerator and held on to possession until the last whistle.
GU assistant coach, George Molemogi was pleased with his charges.
“We managed to get three points, the boys connected well. We had a closed game at the beginning but we opened up in the second half and played with our wings and we got goals,” he said.
His Miscellaneous counterpart, Russia Chaba conceded defeat.
“GU outclassed us. My boys didn’t play according to our plan, they just didn’t turn up. We gave them a lot of room and they punished us,” Chaba said.
