Confusion over BOKA committees term

Others argue the committee was never given a mandate to stay in office for the full two years, but to complete the previous leadership’s term. The previous committee quit before their time in office elapsed. Other affiliates say the committee was given a fresh mandate to run the full two years. According to a source, the committee has failed to seek affiliates’ mandate to stay in office for two years. He said it means they have to complete the term of the previous committee.

The source said the BOKA constitution is quiet in that regard.  He said it was up to the committee to ask for a new term when they came into office, but they have not done so.  He said this could be as a result of the upcoming BOKA ordinary meeting where the issue is likely to crop up.  The source said it would be up to the affiliates to decide, adding their performance since assuming power will be considered.

However BOKA president, David Mathe said they have been given the mandate to be in office for two years.  He said the affiliates decided last year that there was need for the committee to start a fresh term. He said they would hold a meeting to update the members on the progress made. He said the date for the meeting is yet to be decided. Furthermore, Mathe said the committee has taken a decision to give BOKA technical commission power when it comes to karate activities. He said the commission has been there, but it was unfortunate that the previous committee overstepped and took away its duties.

“Technical issues should be handled by that commission.  They have already come up with their programme and it will be announced soon.  If we step into their territory, it would bring friction between us. We have to avoid such things,” said Mathe. He said BOKA intends to train referees before all their tournaments. He said training is meant to empower the officials as there is need to update them on the rules of the sport.
