Task Force recommends completion of FA Cup

Sesinyi was head of task force that explored the possibility of completing the outstanding matches. Seven games are left to complete the Orange FA Cup.  The eight teams left to battle for the second edition of the Orange FA Cup are Gaborone United, Township Rollers, Jwaneng Galaxy, Mahalapye Railways Highlanders, Notwane, Prisons, Calendar Stars and Masitaoka.

Promotions playoffs for both the Premiership and First Division are also pending. Nico United are supposed to face Mogoditshane Fighters for a place in the next Premiership campaign.

For the four berths in the second tier national league, two from both the northern and southern leagues, 17 regional teams from the four BFA blocs are left to battle.

The final decision on concluding the pending matches rests with the BFA National Executive Committee (NEC). The BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo confirmed that NEC had received and deliberated on the report from the task team.

Mfolo also confirmed a decision was reached but said it would only be disclosed at the BFA general assembly, which has been postponed to a later date.   “NEC would decide when the decision is ready to be announced,” he said briefly.

The head of the delegation of the taskforce, Sesinyi, revealed that in the recommendations his team presented to the NEC, they had resolved that all the outstanding competitions should be completed.

“The recommendation I gave to the (BFA) president is that the playoffs and the remaining Orange FA Cup games should be played to finality.

I expect that as soon as the COVID-19 situation permits then we get back to completing all the matches,” he said.

Quizzed whether the verdict would not open the wounds of the botched BTC Premiership, he was brief in his response.   “I don’t know about that, but as far as I am concerned the competitions would be played to the end.”  NEC recently resolved to declare the Premiership season complete, citing prohibitive costs due to the coronavirus.

In the process, Jwaneng Galaxy were crowned champions while TAFIC, Miscellaneous and Molepolole City Stars were relegated. TAFIC and City Stars are challenging the decision.

Sua Flamingoes and Masitaoka were crowned champions of the national league from the north and south respectively, and thus gained promotion to the elite league.   Francistown City Greens and crosstown rivals Great North Tigers relegated to Division One in the north, while Jwaneng Fighters and Ncojane suffered a similar fate in the south.
