BOFEPUSU treasurer, Moses Monnatsie told journalists yesterday that an audit of the federation’s books over the last six years had found irregularities with the years 2010, 2011 and 2012.
“Some cheques were missing for the period 2010, 2011 and 2012. We are working with the bank to track that,” said the treasurer.
He also said the audits found that many payment vouchers were not authorised during the same years, which represent the federation’s first three years of existence. It was also found that for that three-year period, the budget was not well defined.
Meanwhile, BOFEPUSU secretary general, Tobokani Rari said the recent governing council in Palapye had addressed the issue of their relationship with the Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU). “BOFEPUSU has never attacked BFTU in any forum. We were surprised that towards the end of last year we were subjected to unprovoked attacks from the BFTU. We have taken a cautionary note not to attack BFTU, but to enquire whether the views put on papers towards the end of last year were of the BFTU or those of an individual,” said Rari.
He said BOFEPUSU had since written to the BFTU president and is waiting for the response.
“Federations don’t thrive in attacking each other but on working together,” Rari said.
