Suspected druglord appears for 62kg of dagga

Sergeant Chashingwa Ndadi, who was standing on behalf of the substantive prosecutor in the matter, told the court that the purpose of the mention was for a case management conference.

Ndadi said it was not possible to conduct the case management conference because the substantive prosecutor in the matter was attending a course at the Otse Police College.

Ndadi applied for a warrant of arrest to be issued against the other accused person not before court and for the setting of another mention date.

However, Nthoiwa told the court that his co-accused was absent because she had gone to Limkokwing University to write an examination. “My co-accused has recently been called by Limkokwing University authorities to come and write an examination after the results of one of the courses she wrote went missing. She is not deliberately absent from court. My attorney has also informed me that he will be absent in court because he is attending court in Kasane,” said Nthoiwa.

Chief Magistrate Gaedupe Makgatho told Nthoiwa to inform his co-accused to appear in court on March 31. Last year, Nthoiwa and four others appeared in court for allegedly setting fire to an exhibit room at the police Northern Division Headquarters in the process burning dagga that was inside.

The state also alleged that Nthoiwa and his co-accused acting jointly with a common purpose, knowing that dagga could be used in proceedings against Nthoiwa, willfully removed it (dagga) from the exhibit room with the intention of preventing it from being used as evidence against him between August 22-23 last year at the police headquarters.
