The Argentinian  has promised a different playing style as the Reds try to settle under a third coach in one season.

Zapata is not a stranger to African football as he has coached Mpumalanga Black Aces in South Africa and Sunshine Stars FC of Nigeria.

Zapata told Mmegi Sport that his first two games against Miscellaneous and Mochudi Centre Chefs would help him get used to the players. He said the two matches are very important as they would help the team prepare for the CAF Confederations Cup. GU play JKU FC of Zanzibar next month and Zapata said it was critical to do well in the competition.

Zapata said he is bringing a new style of football to GU and felt that it would not be difficult for the players to adapt.  He said Africa has a lot of talent, adding that he has realised that Batswana have passion for football.

“I always tell my players to be hungry for success and I will do the same here. They can achieve success if they have discipline.  GU has a lot of talented youngsters that I intend to mould,” he said.

GU chairman, Rapula Okaile said the coach met the executive committee yesterday.

He said it is still premature for him to discuss the agreement they have with the coach.

He said they want the club and coach’s philosophies to merge.  He said they are preparing for next season because the league championship and Mascom Top 8 are out of their reach.

“We want a top four finish next season in order to qualify for the Mascom Top 8.  We want to redeem our pride.

We are a big side and we must live up to that,” said Okaile.

He said GU has quality players and they are not releasing anyone during the transfer window. He said they signed some new players to improve competition and build a winning team.
