The Selebi-Phikwe side stormed to a win with a great opening in the first inning, scoring eight runs while their opponents could only register one.  The leaders increased their tally with another run in the second inning and Deltas also managed a run to make it 9-2.

Deltas change of game plan to slow-pitches saw the leaders struggle in the third and fourth innings. The game ended in the fifth inning with a run ahead rule.

Deltas coach, Kesaobaka Mpofu said the boys are still learning.

“We were outclassed, both our defence and our offence were poor. We couldn’t make a lot of chances at batting, but we can’t blame the boys. We are a work in progress; our team is young with an average age of 21 years and we are a new side in the league. We are still trying to study the way things go and we will grow with time. “We lost the game in the first inning and we managed to contain them for the rest of the game. I am happy with that, I think going forward we will have a very competitive team,” Mpofu said.

His Comets counterpart, Thabologo Reosebile said they did not play according to plan. “Our plan was to score 20 runs and give our youngsters a run, but we failed. I am not happy with the way we played. We started well, but we lost our momentum in the other innings. It shows we still have some work to do.  “Our opponents played better than us. They saw they could not match us with fast pitches and they quickly switched to slow pitches and we failed to take the game. I think that is our weakness at the moment so we have to go back to the drawing board and work on the soft pitches. Otherwise, I am not pleased at all,” he said.

In other games Maun Deltas men beat Motlakase 7-5, Rail Giants demolished Ghetto Yankees 7-0, and in the women’s section Rail Giants beat Scramblers 8-2 before they went on to beat Ghetto Yankees 16-2.
