BBC secretary general, Gofaone Kebualemang denied they had abandoned the office, while acknowledging they had not communicated with affiliates.
He said they are waiting for BNSC to advise on the new date for the meeting. The AGM was set for August 29 at Mmokolodi, but the BNSC cancelled the meeting at the 11th hour after some affiliates raised concerns.
The affiliates met with BNSC chief executive officer, Falcon Sedimo and Sport Development director-administration, Elsie Kenosi.
According to information reaching Mmegi Sport, BBC president, Terrence Tiroyakgosi attended the meeting with vice president Koziba Sebina. Other committee members did not turn up. Kebualemang said he was not aware what was discussed at the meeting, as he did not attend. “I do not know what was discussed there because I was not there. So I do not know when the AGM would be held,” Kebualemang said.
But sources said the president told BNSC leadership that it was conflicted in the matter. “The board did not attend the meeting because their term has ended, so they no longer hold office. They said that despite acknowledging the meeting through a response letter to BNSC,” the source said.
The meeting reportedly continued in the presence of Kenosi after Sedimo excused himself.
“We addressed issues that were in the petition and had a common understanding that although the BBC constitution is tampered with, we
can only follow and amend it at the AGM,” the source said.
The affiliates were advised by the BNSC to contact the Registrar of
Societies on issues pertaining to the constitution. “We have submitted the documents that BNSC requested, including the original BBC constitution. We are now waiting for a verdict from BNSC and the Registrar,” a source said.
The source said BNSC has informed BBC that they could offer them advice, but all the power is in the hands of the affiliates. The new suggested date for the meeting is October 31. Meanwhile, BBC treasurer Isaac Oratile told Mmegi Sport that he would not be seeking re-election due to personal reasons.
“I am a member of Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA) in good standing since 2018.
There are some claims that were raised in the media that BBC had appointed an unqualified accountant. That was false and it should be noted that such information was fabricated to tarnish my reputation,” Oratile said.
Oratile added when he was co-opted into the BBC board, he was already a BICA member.
