Comets beat Rail Giants two times last year at the Selebi-Phikwe Extravaganza tournament and in the BoFiNet Softball League first round games. Comets chairperson, Oeme Morupisi credited their rise to the improved facilities in the mining town.

“The team is doing well this year. We have won almost all of our games. Our boys are second and we have no doubt we will finish at the top. Our women’s team has finished their games in position one and they have qualified for the BoFiNet finals.

We have formed a strong team, obviously we are enjoying the best facilities we have here.

Players are motivated, they enjoy training on the lawn at night when temperatures have fallen,” Morupisi said.

Morupisi said now that they have overcome Rail Giants, they are eyeing the BoFiNet finals. He said they would beef up their team in the current transfer window. He said: “We have dismantled the Mighty Rail Giants, now we want to reach the finals. We want to be the first team from the north to win the BoFiNet league.

We have identified some players that I cannot mention now until we have completed their moves, but one of them is a high profile Rail Giants player.

We have also promoted six promising youngsters who participated in the Mini Extravaganza tournament, they also represented Phikwe region at the Botswana Games and some of them have been selected to represent the country.”

Morupisi also added they would release five other players, especially those who were no longer training with the team.

From the men’s side, the released players include Obakeng Kethosepe, who is heading back to his former team Scramblers; and Seabe Fane, who might be joining Dinare who have shown interest in him.

Gaone Mudongo and Kealeboga Gasenwe are leaving the women’s team for Scramblers. Sharon Sebetlela, who was one of their best catchers, is headed to Panthers. The Northern Zone BoFiNet league resumes this weekend in Francistown.
