The event this year will be held under the theme: “Guidance for Human Resource development, gateway towards diversifying Botswana’s economy”.

The event will take place at Ditshupo Hall from March 14 to 19. Last year, HRDC introduced career guidance clinics to prepare prospective tertiary students in providing information on key priority skills needed for the current labour market.

Speaking at the launch and media briefing yesterday, HRDC’s chief executive officer, Patrick Molutsi, said the two events seek to create awareness and to assist form five school leavers to choose careers wisely.

“These events have radically transformed the education and training landscape in Botswana,” he said. “They provide information to learners using multiple approaches geared toward assisting the learners to make informed career choices.”

Molutsi said the aim of the event was to stimulate quality education among the public and private tertiary institution by ensuring they adhered to delivering quality education in Botswana. In the past, the fair attracted foreign students to study in Botswana, through the study in Botswana programme, spearheaded by the Botswana Education Hub.

The annual educational event has been rebranded to align it with the mandate of the HRDC, which is not only focused on tertiary education but also covering the entire education system. This comes after Botswana Tertiary Education Council transformed to HRDC.

Faith Tuelo, HRDC’s marketing and communications manager, said: “In the past we only focused on tertiary education, but at HRDC we also include vocational training institutions hence the need for the rebranding exercise. This is simply to align the event with HRDC’s mandate, which is skewed at covering the entire education pipeline.”

The HRDC fair will be preceded by the career clinic which will be held from March 14- 18 and the fair will follow from March 26-9.
