“BNSC sent a letter to inform me that they will be renovating the stadium.

They asked me if it is still optional for me to continue with concert despite the renovation of the north and south stands,” he said.

Kast, whose real name is Tshepiso Molapisi, indicated that the renovation would only cover a few selected stands therefore he doesn’t see any need to stop the show.

“The show is still on and I will send a letter to confirm that we will use the stadium,” he said.

He said the remaining stands would still be enough to make the show a success.

Contacted for comment, Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) CEO, Falcon Sedimo, said he didn’t know the degree at which the renovation would affect the scheduled activities.

He referred Showbiz to Thato Kgosimore who is responsible for the development of the stadium.

Kgosimore told Showbiz that he would confirm at a later stage whether Kast’s concert would be affected by the renovation.

“The stadium is being renovated on the north and south stands and that would only leave two sides available,” he said.

Kgosimore said the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology would solely be responsible for the development.

“But the contract allows us to use the available part of the stadium while the contractor continues on the other sides,” he highlighted. Kgosimore said the stadium is being developed for the BOT 50 celebrations in September this year.

Since word got out that the stadium would be closed, some people were worried for the rapper who has been working tirelessly to push his campaign.

Kast lodged the intention to fill up the stadium after South African musician Cassper Nyovest announced his Fill Up The Dome campaign in October last year.

Even though the idea received criticism at first many, musicians and corporate entities have come out to support the campaign.

The 100 percent local line-up campaign is aimed at galvanising local music and the arts. Before the renovation, Kast was on the verge of making history by becoming the first local musician to successfully campaign to fill up the 22 500-seater stadium capacity.

Now that the capacity would be reduced significantly, the veteran rapper can no longer fill the whole stadium because he will only have two stands to fill.
