Kutlwano, Spiking Stars dominate award nominations

The awards will take place at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) next week. Kutlwano received eight nominations while Stars have six.

Kutlwano player, Tebogo Sejewe has been nominated in three categories being best attacker, best service and top scorer. She would be competing for the best service award against her teammate, Karabo Molefha. Another nominee from Kutlwano is Caroline Rodger for best blocker. Pauline Moribame is competing for best libero while Sesha Matswiri has been nominated in the best setter category.  Their coach, Dopp Popo is competing for best coach against Kabo Ntshinogang of Mafolofolo.

Spiking Stars player, Phemelo Lekoko has picked three nominations for best attacker, best service and top scorer.  Kealeboga Mmekwane also from Stars is in the running for top goal scorer award.  Bokao Nagafela from the same team has been nominated for best attacker.

Other two players from Stars who have received nominations are Molebi Rabosigo (best libero) and Phenyo Thebeng (best setter). 

Mafolofolo come second after Kutlwano with five nominations. Gaoleseletse Gasekgonwe has been nominated in two categories, best attacker and setter.  Her teammate, Kelebogile Mahupela is also under the best setter category.  Tsholofelo Retshabile is nominated under best service category.

Kutlwano men’s team received five nominations. Best service nominee is Tiroyaone Otimile while Meshack Mutambirwa is challenging for best blocker.  Tjiyapo Madeluka has been nominated as best libero while Shadrack Kapeko is under the top scorer category. Isaac Samuel will battle it out against Selebatso Mabutho for best coach.

BVF vice president, George Keotsenye said the coaching commission was tasked with collecting nominees’ statistics. The cash prize is P2,000 for all individual awards except for the top goal scorer who pockets P3,000.

 “There are no nominees for Mascom Top 8 tournament, but best players from both men and women would be announced on the day,” said Keotsenye.

The awards are in their ninth year.
