Hunt beats Amrouche to Chiefs job

Amrouche was heavily linked with the South African giants who parted ways with German, Ernst Middendorp a week ago.
Chiefs fired the German tactician, after he failed to deliver silverware in the just-ended 2019-2020 season.
The Soweto giants were reportedly eyeing Amrouche for one of the most lucrative coaching jobs on the continent.
Just in his first of a three-year contract with the BFA, Amrouche would have left at no cost, as the two parties did not include a compensation fee in the coach’s agreement. Amrouche signed his three-year contract last year but is the subject of offers from abroad, other than the failed Chiefs move.
The Belgian was in the running alongside Hunt and former Orlando Pirates coach, Ruud Krol. French tactician, Patrice Carteron had also thrown his name in the hat. However, on Thursday, the Soweto giants announced Hunt would take charge for the next three seasons.
This is the second time Amrouche has been linked with the Chiefs job, before the Botswana Football Association (BFA) snatched him.
This week, the BFA had expressed confidence Amrouche would stay despite the interest from abroad.
BFA public relations officer, Tumo Mpatane said the coach, had not shown any intention to leave. He said the association expects a long-term future with the coach and remained confident that he will stay.
“He has always been committed to the current Zebras project. The coach is in Belgium to check on his family and will be back soon,” Mpatane said.
The tactician is contracted on a deal worth around P9 million over three years and was in line to earn almost a double at Naturena.
He is expected to return home and start preparing the Zebras for back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations finals against Zambia in November.
