UDC rally in Tutume failed to attract a large crowd of this magnitude

Earlier last week the UDC through its affiliate the Botswana People’s Party (BPP) indicated that it would welcome new members to the party.

Five hundred members in the Nkange constituency were expected to be welcomed but this only translated to seven people being welcomed.

BPP president and UDC chairman, Motlatsi Molapisi said some of the absent members had sent apologies that they would not be available for various reasons.

“Most of them (who did not attend the welcome ceremony) have gone to the lands for sowing purposes. They want to capatilise on the recent rains that have been received in the area. We have also recruited some civil servants whom we cannot show here because they are not allowed to actively participate in politics,” Molapisi said at the rally.

However, when contacted for comment on Monday, Molapisi said, “The organisers did not manage to mobilise the people who were to be welcomed effectively due to the rains.

In total we registered 810 people. Of course all the 810 people cannot come to the rally but we expected to welcome at least 100 or so, which is a reasonable figure. However, overall we are happy with how the rally went and the attendance,” he said.

Meanwhile, at the rally Molapisi pleaded with Batswana to vote for the UDC. He said that it is increasingly becoming clear that the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) led government has lost its strength and ideas on how to rule the country.

“ The UDC with its policy has proven itself as a party that has the interest of Batswana at heart. Government has for years neglected the Nkange constituency in terms of development. If you vote for the UDC it will improve the area significantly,” said Molapisi.

The veteran politician pleaded with members of the UDC and the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) to desist from making unruly remarks about each other in public.

“Focus should now be on merging the two parties so that we remove the BDP from power in 2019 so that we liberate Batswana from their struggles,” Molapisi told the rally.

UDC vice president, Ndaba Gaolathe, said although the UDC is less resourced it has leaders with vision who can liberate the country from the various struggles it is currently facing.

“The current government will not take us anywhere,” he said. Ndaba said the country currently faces electricity, water and economic challenges among others but the BDP government has failed to act on them. mso-bidi-language:AR-SA'>An official at Mmadinare Wildlife department, September Tsheboeng refused to comment on the issue saying he would have to get permission from headquarters.
