“We are investigating a head-on accident involving two cars, a Toyota Allex and Nissan Sunny which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning in which both drivers lost their lives. The accident occurred 20km from Tutume near where it used to be called Mpane-wa-Seretse bus stop in Nshakazhogwe,” Tutume police station commander Superintendent Jerry Halahala confirmed.

He said that the Toyota Allex was travelling from Tutume towards Sebina while the Nissan Sunny with two people, a man and his wife was heading  in the opposite direction. The deceased are locals aged between 30-45 years and their bodies are currently at the Tutume Primary Hospital mortuary waiting for a post-mortem.

“When the two cars collided, the Toyota Allex driver was thrown outside the car and sustained serious injuries and lost his life right on the spot whilst the driver of the Nissan Sunny burnt to ashes inside his car,” said Halahala. The wife managed to escape with serious injuries and is currently hospitalised at Tutume Primary Hospital.

Halahala said the police, members of the community and the fire department unsuccessfully tried to douse the fire to save the driver. The names of the deceased have been withheld until their next of kin have been notified.

Halahala said even though it is the first fatal accident this year, he expressed concern over the frequent road accidents in his policing area.

He cautioned drivers to obey road signs at all times and urged the youth to desist from drinking and driving.

“Drink and driving is usually the cause of most of the road accidents in this area. I plead with drivers to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol. We plead with parents to help us to talk to their children when leaving home driving as the nation continues to lose the futumm re generation and bread winners,” said Halahala. blood due to bleeding and now I feel dizzy most of the time and I am also vomiting,” she said.

Mbulawa added that baboons have also become a nuisance to the greater community of Mmadinare, especially for residents staying near Makome hills.

“These baboons are not only attacking us here there are also reports that they are attacking residents who stay next to the school but the Wildlife department has done nothing about the baboons,” he said.

An official at Mmadinare Wildlife department, September Tsheboeng refused to comment on the issue saying he would have to get permission from headquarters.
