Teenager Dies In An Electric Shock Incident

Kedia is a tiny village of less than 1,000 people situated less than 20 kilometres south west of Mopipi village.

According to the Station Commander superintendent Michael Maphephu the deceased was staying with his mother who was an employee at the farm. The deceased and the mother were charging their battery using a generator, according the police boss. “The mother directed the boy to disconnect the battery from the generator,” he said. “It looks like the boy was in the process shocked by electricity while trying to disconnect the wires linking the battery to the generator. The boy died instantly.” Maphephu advised members of the public to be cautious when dealing with electricity to avoid incidents such as shocks. In another matter, Maphephu said police were investigating two separate defilement cases that involve a 15-year-old girl and two men aged 17 and 25 years. The 25-year-old man is a teacher in Letlhakane. The girl was allegedly defiled by the 17-year-old man early last week before the teacher allegedly took his turn. The two men were in police custody and were expected to appear in court this week. Maphephu said police were yet to arrest a suspect who defiled a mentally disabled young girl in the same village. He expressed worry about high rape cases in his policing area.

“It is the beginning of year and we have already recorded eight cases of rape,” he said. “It is very disturbing and we plead with members of the public to desist from such behavior. What is sad is that most of the victims are minors.”
