This is according to the director, Multilateral Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Benetia Chingapane. The SADC Double Troika is made up of Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Tanzania and Swaziland and its summit is taking place at the Gaborone International Convention Centre.

Chingapane said the Double Troika Summit, which would be chaired by President Ian Khama, would review the political and security situation in Southern Africa, with focus on the situation in Lesotho.

The summit was preceded by meetings of senior officials and ministers that started on Saturday.

Last year, a judge of the High Court, Mpaphi Phumaphi, was appointed to chair the Commission of Enquiry on the violence in Lesotho following the assassination of General Maaparankwe Mohau.

A SADC Double Troika summit that took place in Pretoria last winter established an urgent independent commission of inquiry into the killing of General Mohau on June 25, 2015.

Mohau was driving from his farm when he was ambushed by not less than 11 soldiers armed with AK47s and shot execution style while his nephews were with him in his vehicle.
