The game, played at the UB softball grounds, saw Panthers take the lead in the first innings through Disang Selemogwe. Selemogwe’s first home run of the game paved way for two more runs and Panthers finished the first inning with three points.
UB Giants, however, did not lie down as Mothusi Gabogaisanye and Gabriel Kebiditswe each registered a run to bring a one-point gap into the second inning.
The second inning did not have much action, but the Panthers increased their lead by adding another point through Tshepiso Mphapogang’s only run of the inning. Giants however failed to register a point in the second inning.
In the third inning, Panthers were on fire and Tiro Mazulungwa’s left-handed strike was enough to register four consecutive home runs for Panthers. Mazulungwa was making a comeback after suffering a minor injury earlier in the game. Giants’ duo of Kelebogile ‘HT’ Mabua and Oarabile Mokgethi recorded two consecutives runs to reduce the deficit.
Going into the fourth inning, Panthers had already created a comfortable four-point lead and it was up to Giants to catch up. The inning itself proved difficult for both teams and none of them scored a point.
Panthers went into the fifth inning knowing that a good performance will be enough to wrap up the game. They did not register any run in the fifth inning and it was now up to Giants to take the game further and perhaps force a comeback.
Even though Gabagaisanye scored his second run of the day, it was not enough to extend the game to the sixth inning and Panthers emerged victorious. In another game played on Saturday, Dinare swept past Warriors with a convincing 9-2 win.
