Kgotlhang has since told Mmegi that for ‘knowing too much’ the DIS is now after his head. He alleged that the DIS dumped him without paying him his dues after he failed to assassinate Gabane-Mmankgodi Member of Parliament, Pius Mokgware.

After Mmegi ran the story last Friday, apparently, the police developed interest in Kgotlhang and have since interviewed him about the allegations he raised. Mmegi has learnt that Kgotlhang spent the whole of Tuesday at the Police headquarters where at least four senior police officers questioned him on the allegations. “It is not clear to me as to what exactly they are investigating, they took a statement from me and interrogated me,” he told Mmegi.

He said they parted with him stating that they will keep in touch. Police Public Relations Officer Dipheko Motube will not confirm or deny. “As the police when we are investigating a matter, we cannot divulge any names or details unless it’s a matter already before court,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mokgware has since opened a conspiracy to murder case against the state. “The police called me on Monday and came to see me, whereupon they told me they saw reports that I had said there was a plot to kill me. I took the opportunity and opened a case which I was in the process of opening with police,” he said. Mokgware said they questioned him and he told them his side of the story on his interactions with Kgotlhang.

The Kgotlhang family on Monday sent Richard’s three brothers to follow up on the issue after seeing it in the newspaper. “The family is shocked and worried. We need to follow this and establish what exactly is going on,” one of the brothers, Witness Kgotlhang said. Witness said the family never knew Richard was involved in such issues and that he (Witness) dismissed Richard when he said he was working for DIS some time last year November.

Witness said they just knew that he stayed in Mogoditshane and lived off fixing electronics and doing other piece jobs. Witness further said as far as they knew, Richard is mentally fit and has never suffered from any mental condition. Witness said they had gone to the Minister for Defence, Justice and Security Shaw Kgathi’s office to ask for help from him.
