The affiliates raised a plethora of concerns in a letter addressed to Masire. The clubs argue there are many issues that should be addressed since the Masire-led committee was elected into office a year ago.

There are sharp differences within the executive committee, which has reportedly paralysed the smooth running of the association.

“There have been so many inconsistencies and concerns raised in relation to BCA operations and its mode of operation, unfair treatment, selective and in many instances dismissive, disrespectful communication and sometimes just pure silence towards members enquiries as well as disregard for executive committee members’ concerns,” reads the letter.

The situation boiled over at the annual general meeting (AGM) held last Saturday.

According to a source, the bone of contention was the executive and the financial reports, which were rejected by members.

“The committee did not have an input in the two reports. The reports were availed to the committee a day before the AGM. The executive report is a committee report even though is presented by the president,” a source said.

Speaking to Mmegi Sport, Masire said the affiliates have raised concern that there was tension in the executive committee and that was impacting on the delivery of the committee.

“It was agreed that the committee must report back in four weeks to see if they have found a way to work around their differences,” he said. Despite reports of divisions, Masire said the AGM proceeded well and the business of the day was concluded successfully.  He said they had some heated debates on a number of issues. He revealed some members felt that the executive committee did not act on some issues from the last AGM.

“The committee pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic [them] affected badly and a number of issues had to be postponed. The executive and treasurer’s report were discussed at length,” Masire said. He said his committee was advised that going forward, COVID-19 would not be used as a reason for not delivering on their mandate except if it involves international travel.

“The executive report pointed out that the international races like the continental championships and the Africa Cup had to be cancelled because of COVID-19. But the races are back and the local schedule is now on track,” Masire said.
