Flying Flamingoes fire coach

Chinyemba told Mmegi Sport that he was fired contrary to the club’s position that he had left by mutual consent. “The immigration department withdrew my work permit from Mega Com, but it doesn’t take a week to secure a work permit for the coach. The team fired me and I have the dismissal letter to prove it. They told me they wanted an experienced coach. I am still in shock because results were forthcoming. Those are just excuses,” Chinyemba said.

Club chairperson Bashi Joseph had told this publication that Chinyemba, who was a volunteer, had left by mutual agreement after his work permit was revoked by the Department of Immigration.

“The situation with Chinyemba was too difficult for us and it was going to take time to resolve and we didn’t want to be caught up in it.

“We didn’t want to risk losing focus. We want to gain automatic promotion and we will remain focused on that.  I cannot delve much into his contract with his former employers, but for us to help him withdraw his work permits and re-apply for another, will need the time we don’t have,” Joseph said.

He added that the team has moved swiftly to engage a new coach and they will be bringing Premiership players into the fold.

“We have engaged a Zambian international, Michael Mwemba, to take us forward. He is well versed in local football as he has been around for sometime. He coached a lot of teams in the north and he is the former coach of Kanye’s Southern Pirates.

“We lost a lot of ground in the closing games of the first round and went on to lose our top spot at the last hurdle. We reckon the players we came in with from the Second Division are too many in the squad and they are not coping well in the First Division and therefore will be offloading nine of them.

We want to beef up our squad with seven players, among them four seasoned Premiership players. We are still in talks with the teams hopefully next week we will have finalised the transfers,” he added.
