The tournament would be held at the Nyayo National Stadium from tomorrow until Sunday.

The Continental Tour is an athletics competition series in 10 cities in the world and would rotate amongst four continents, Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. The Nairobi Meet is the only event in Africa.

Initially, the event was planned for May but was postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Kelaotswe, who is also Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) vice president-technical, was elated with the appointment.

“It is a result of how I have been executing my duties all along. My mind and hands are my marketing tools. It means the athletics community in Africa recognises me as one of the best in electronic timing,” he said.

Kelaotswe said the assignment does not come easy, as the organisers have to pick the best-suited candidates.

BAA vice president-administration, Oabona Theetso welcomed the appointment.

“It shows growth on his part and the association in general. He is going there as an ambassador so his assignment shall pay off as he would come back and share his experience with other technical officials,” Theetso said.

He said BAA is in the process of training technical officials including coaches and administrators.

There are five core events in the gold meeting series this season; the 200m, 3,000m steeple chase, triple jump, discus throw and hammer throw for both men and women.

The Nairobi meet would also include javelin throw, the 400m, 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m.
