Letshwiti defends laptop hand-outs

Letshwiti travelled to Palapye last week to hand out the laptops, which attracted critics, who argued it was a campaign gimmick.
But Letshwiti is unfazed, arguing football business cannot be halted by elections.
“The business of football must continue. Elections or no elections we must perform our duties as a responsible association, even the President of the country, gets criticised for the very same things, but he has to run the country. Virus or no virus, he has to run the country. So, it is not different from any association,” Letshwiti said.
There was criticism that Letshwiti could have used other means to send the laptops to the affiliates rather than travelled. His critics pointed to the fact that the BFA had failed to hold a physical OGA, yet there was a meeting to distribute laptops.
However, Letshwiti said ‘oranges and apples’ could not be compared.
“In any case, going wherever we go, as long as we are COVID-19 compliant, there is no problem. But the manner in which we wanted to hold the assembly is not COVID-19 compliant. You cannot compare two different things,” he said.
The association handed out laptops for use by affiliates, including the regions. The development, the BFA said, would enhance efficiency. Today (Friday), Letshwiti will hand out IT kits to the southern regions. The hand-outs come days before the BFA holds a virtual elective OGA.
The much-anticipated elections feature Letshwiti against his predecessor, Tebogo Sebego and former association chief executive officer, Ookeditse Malesu.
Stakes are high, and emotions were stoked when the BFA Electoral Committee initially vetted out Sebego and Malesu, citing pending cases.
However, the Appeals Board reversed the decision.
