My Star completes best of the best selection

The selected trio of Lazarus, Anita and Obakeng will make 20 contestants for the next instalment of My Star.
The audition started with Lazarus making his way back to the show since 2008. Then Lazarus failed to secure a spot in the Top 3 following his loss to Elizabeth.
Now mature after eight years, Lazarus confessed to being nervous when facing the audience, but the vocals said otherwise. Lazarus, who is now a recording artist, sang Whitney Houston’s I Look To You and the audience loved his performance.
The judges asked him to sing a second song because they could not get enough of him.
One of the judges, Keabetswe ‘Master Dee’ Sesinyi said Lazarus’ performance is capable of scaring other contestants away.
Up next was Anita who was in the Top 20 in 2007 when the competition was still called Pop Stars. Anita, who is now a model, began her performance by singing Whitney Houston’s Greatest Love Of All. She choked along the way, but the judges gave her a chance to redeem herself with another performance.
She did not waste her second chance and blew the audience away with a rendition of Rihanna’s Take A Bow.
Obakeng wrapped up the audition with a comeback after just one season. He lost a place in the Top 5 in 2014 when Ontefetse and Tshegofatso beat him.
Now back to prove a point, OBK as he is now called gave a wonderful performance of Breakeven by Script. His second performance was even more unique and proved why he was a fan favourite during his last season.
When he sang ‘Shoot me down/ But I won’t fall’ lyrics, OBK showed his fans that he is back and nothing can stand in his way.
After the show, My Star creator, Sesinyi said so far they have managed to reach their target of 20.
“At first we wanted Top 10 contestants, but we changed to Top 20 because we realised that many people have moved on since then,” he said.
Sesinyi said the tough competition from the already selected contestants also scared people away. He also indicated that best of the best is also meant to appreciate everyone who helped the show grow since its inception.
“So far we have the likes of Bianca, Sharon, Boikanyo and Kabo Matlho as well as the runners up so it is going to be bigger and better,” he said. Sesinyi highlighted that they will launch the contestants soon, adding that voting lines will also be opened.
