Motsaathebe hijacked in SA

He was hijacked behind Lanseria airport, on Malibongwe drive known as the R512 road from Randburg to Harteetsproot dam and Brits.

Motsaathebe was with two business partners when the incident happened.

“The hijacking took place at Rinospruitein filling station around 2.20pm in full view of people who were at that filling station.  At first these people (the carjackers) flicked lights at us and put on a siren, which is used by police officers to try to stop us.

“We didn’t stop immediately and we only stopped by the filling station since they were following us.  Two people came out from a Volvo car with two pistols.  We demanded police identification cards, but the two forced us out of the car,” Motsaathebe said.

He said the hijackers immediately took the car and speedily drove away with all their belongings including passports, bags and wallets in the car.

A frustrated Motsaathebe said he, however, thanks God that the hijackers did not shoot them.

“I was scared for my friends because I was not the one driving.  The hijackers looked determined to get what they wanted and if we didn’t stop I suspect they would have shot at us,” he said.

Motsaathebe’s case is reported at Muldersdrift Police Station and is registered as case number 31/01/2016.

The South African police officer in charge of that station was not available for comment, but the officer who refused to reveal his identity confirmed that they are investigating the case.

“That case is still new and investigations are ongoing since it was the second incident to happen that week.  The officer investigating the case, sergeant Mashaba, is also not around, but the officer in charge is the one who can talk to the media,” the officer said.

Motsaathebe said he bought his car in Gaborone and is valued at P300,000.
