The Cheetahs are currently languishing at the bottom of the log standings with four points from 16 games.

The situation was not helped by the Botswana Premier League (BPL) disciplinary committee (DC) which docked them three points for “using an improperly registered” player. Satmos however appealed the decision and the BFA DC was scheduled to make a ruling regarding the appeal yesterday.

“Our plan is to beef up the squad by introducing strikers, midfielders and defenders because we have realised that we are not doing well in the positions,” Satmos assistant coach, Mogolodi Chepete said. “Our intention is to avoid relegation, that is why we want to beef up our squad. It is too early to give up on the league.”

Since the beginning of the league, Satmos have not registered any win, from the 16 games played Satmos, but could only secure draws in four games, and losses in 12.

Despite their poor performance, Satmos still hopes to avoid relegation.

Chepete denied claims that the team was not doing well because players were not satisfied with their welfare.

He said management was working hard to ensure that the players’ welfare was taken care of. The club was not yet financially stable, but management tried hard to pay players. “We understand that when players are not well paid they do not perform well,” he said. “As the management, we try by all means to meet their demands.”

He also said one of the problems they encounter is that players are always making demands. He, however, said that their poor performance has nothing to do with players’ dissatisfaction.

“Players are always making demands, but we try to help them,” he added. “I do not want to believe that the team is not doing well because players are not happy like some people think.”

Chepete explained however that the only players who got paid were those without jobs. Players with jobs receive help only when they need it.

Meanwhile, Satmos take on Gaborone United (GU) in their last game before the Christmas break this Saturday in Selebi-Phikwe. Satmos are looking forward for a better performance after Orapa United walloped them 5-0 on Sunday while GU are also expected to come gun-blazing after they played to a goalless draw against Gilport Lions.
