Speaking at the BotswanaPost’s ‘Save Botswana’s Vulture’ commemorative stamp issue launch on Monday, the minister said the collaboration of the two ministries could help in the promotion of the tourism sector.

“It is through BotswanaPost’s efforts like its philately programme that we will be able to brand and communicate about our unique and rich heritage, our diverse bio-environment to the outer world,” said Tshekedi.

BotswanaPost was launching the fifth stamp themed ‘Save Botswana’s Vulture’ as part of their philately programme. The stamp issue unveiled accentuates the notion of protecting bird species against extinction and vultures population.

Earlier this year, the BotswanaPost launched the other four themed; National Flora Symbols, the spectacular birds of Botswana, lions of the Chobe, the Okavango Delta and the African buffalo in Botswana.

The stamp programme is part of the ‘reinvigorating philately’ initiative, which aims at positioning BotswanaPost Philatelic Bureau as one of the best on the international market.

The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Neil Fitt also stressed the importance of the collaboration between the ministries.

“Inviting the MEWT is a testimony of the strategic intent to showcase our capabilities as a ministry heading BotswanaPost and deep desire to partner in the development agenda of the country,” he said.

In addition, Fitt said the BotswanaPost has the capacity to support the tourism sector in driving and propelling the economy forward.  He also challenged other government organs like the Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO), Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), Ministry of Youth Sport and Culture (MYSC) as well as the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to work closely  together and pool resources for the betterment of national prospects in this highly competitive environment. For his part, the BotswanaPost Chief Executive, Cornelius Ramatlhakwane expressed excitement at using stamps for conservation efforts but also as a platform to enable the talented artists across the nation to leverage their skills to sell the beauty that is Botswana.

Through this commitment, Ramatlhakwane said they educate and engage stakeholders, local artists and the general public on stamp designing.
