Goledzwa, as the soccer spectacular is known, is a competition for football teams in Tutume. The teams compete for a trophy, medals and P12, 000 prize money. The runners up will bag P9,000 and silver medals. Positions three, four and five will take home P7, 800, P7, 200 and P6, 800 respectively. The team that finishes last will walk away with P6, 000.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on Christmas day at the Tini Primary School football ground. The tournament’s beauty pageant dubbed Goledzwa Beauty Pageant, which is on its second year running, will be held on the eve of the Christmas day at Tutume’s Dark Inn Club.

Beauty queens will also win money. The first prize is P1, 000 while the first princess will get P750 and the second princess P600. Goledzwa publicity secretary, Chris Nyanga said organisers are projecting to surpass last year’s expenditure of P100, 000.

“We have a sponsor who has assisted in fencing the ground and we are humbled,” he said. “They continue to bless us every year and this year we have recorded a huge growth in the number of sponsors.”

Nyanga said despite the entertainment and exciting reunions that the tournament brings to their village, Goledzwa Football Tournament remained alive to its corporate social responsibility obligations. He said the tournament would once again donate money towards the construction of a shade at Tutume kgotla. Goledzwa Football Tournament has also prepared a Christmas function for patients who were admitted at Tutume Primary Hospital.

He added that the tournament contributed positively to the economic development of Tutume. “Small and micro businesses benefit a lot from the tournament,” Nyanga said. “We allow them to sell inside and outside the ground to make some money.”
