NSCS pipe burst, again

The unavailability of the pipeline will result in low pressure to no water supply in the Greater Gaborone area. The effects of the unavailability of the pipeline will set in at different times in different areas.

Preliminary assessments indicate that work to restore the pipeline will take at least five days. Normal supply will therefore be restored as from the 20th of December 2015.

Following the restoration of the pipeline, different areas will recover at different times.

The North South Carrier Scheme I (NSC I) is a 365km pipeline that transports water from the Letsibogo and Dikgatlhong dams to the south of the country to supply the Greater Gaborone area.

Water from the Masama Wellfield is also fed into the pipeline to augment supply to the Greater Gaborone area. The pipeline also supplies Palapye, Mahalapye and Serowe.

Following the drying up of the Gaborone Dam in December 2014 and the reduction in the amount of water Molatedi Dam in South Africa supplies Botswana, the Greater Gaborone area largely depends on the pipeline for its water supply as it brings in the bulk of the area's supply.
