The reality show dubbed Best of the Best received six entries only for what was to be the one and only audition day.

In a surprising and rather unusual manner for the singing talent show, only six people turned up for the auditions at the Botswana Television (Btv) auditorium. The managing director of the show, Keabetswe ‘Master Dee’ Sesinyi also confirmed this to Showbiz that only six of the past top 15 contestants showed up.

He said, “My feeling is that people did not quite understand what this year’s competition is all about”. “We said that we will be judging the top 15 contestants of the show since its inception in 2007.  But it seems people did not quite understand this,” he said.

Master Dee further said that this week they will be focusing on selling the idea to the people, and will host another audition next Saturday.

He said this is to give those interested in the competition the last and final chance  to audition. On Saturday only Sharon Sibonge, Boikanyo Sejalolwane, Wendy Lebodi, Ontefetse Osego, Nonofo Ketlhokile, and Michael Mbizo turned up for the auditions.

In a previous press briefing Master Dee confirmed that for the Best of the Best they would be featuring past participants for the coveted title.

On Saturday, Sharon, the woman who stole the hearts of many during her time, with the song, Russian Roulette by Rihanna, belted out Celine Dion’s The Power Of Love.  Michael, Wendy and Ontefetse sang John Legend’s Tonight, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and Fantasia’s Believe respectively.

My Star has, however, apparently lost its popularity with some critics saying none of the previous winners penetrated the market, even after winning.  The Saturday audition will be aired next Sunday on Btv.
