TAFIC have a history of postponing AGMs owing to failure to form a quorum. But this time, COVID-19 has forced the club’s hand.

The Francistown side was also scheduled to hold its executive committee meeting at the weekend.

Interim club chairperson, Ofentse Motlogelwa said the AGM might be held towards the end of November.

“The AGM usually attract 80 to 120 people who are our subscribing members excluding the media and guests. However owing to COVID-19, the numbers that are supposed to converge for a meeting should be 50,” Motlogelwa said.

“We are planning to approach the authorities to get a waiver to allow a sizeable number of people to be part of the meeting.”

Motlogelwa said had the club proceeded with the meeting with the number prescribed by COVID-19 protocols, they ran the risk of excluding other members in the decision making process.

“We can’t run the club smoothly if a majority of our subscribing members do not form part of the decisions making process. That is why we want them to be part of the AGM.

“We explored holding a virtual meeting, but we later shelved the idea because we are short of funds. Holding a virtual conference needs a lot of money.”

However, Motlogelwa said the other factor that led to the postponement of the meeting was that there has been low a turn out of individuals who want to contest the executive elections.

“As of now we only have two people who have expressed desire to contest the elections. They want to contest for additional member positions. We have had speculation that a lot of people want to contest for various executive positions, but none of them have officially declared their interest. We have hope that they will do so since the AGM has been postponed,” he said.

Meanwhile, should the TAFIC AGM materialise late in November the development is likely to see the club having an executive committee dominated by new faces. The majority of executive committee members have said they are stepping down including Motlogelwa.

Carlos Sebina stepped down as the chairperson last month after he was voted into the Botswana Football Association (BFA) national executive committee. By virtue of being a BFA NEC member, Sebina had to exit his position at TAFIC.
