MMP Family sparkles at the YAMAs 2.0

The forum that brought together the best in music, fashion and style on Saturday was indeed a sparkling moment for the kwaito group as they bagged three awards from the YAMAs 2.0.

MMP Family took home Best Kwaito, Song of the Year and Blue Label People’s choice awards.

The awards were sponsored by First National Bank of Botswana (FNBB) for which the group pocketed P10, 000 with Blue Label sponsoring the other category as suggests the title.

Bang! Gae record label was successful as they won Producer of the Year award. Their artists E.P.I.C, Young Black and Chrome won the Best Collabo for the hit song Hee Wena.

Chrome made Bang! Gae even more proud by winning the Best Single Male category award with his song track Ya Summer.

New kid on the block, Licky, outdid herself by walking away with two awards being the Best New Comer and Best Single Female for the song Free Love.  The award for Best Hip hop Motswako went to B-block with Top Shambole, while Best Hip hop DJ was snatched by DJ Root.

The best house DJ was won by DJ T-man beating the likes of Chrispin the Drummer and Ricky Lamar. Gaona Rantlhoiwa of the Kopisa fame, who has missed a couple of awards, won the Best Dance category.

Yarona FM’s DJ Izzy won the Best Social Media award. Sidney Baitsile, popularly known as DJ SID, took the newly introduced YAMAs Hall of Fame.

He was recognised for his contribution towards the growth of Botswana music. Yarona FM co-founder, Percy Raditladi took the icon award.  Performances were top notch during the night as DJ Izzy opened the award ceremony awesomely with the song Nigel Amos, to which the subject, athlete Amos danced joyfully.

E.P.I.C came on stage to perform his songs like Hee Wena. He  showcased ample maturity with a nothing of the ordinary performance. 

Other performers of the night included the energetic Gaona of the sensational Kalanga song Kopisa and Licky renowned for Free Love.

Lizibo, Mosako, Chub Heights, MMP Family performed a Yarona FM recorded track dedicated to Matsha Senior Secondary School recent truck accident victims.

The biggest winner of the YAMAs 2.0, MMP Family sealed the night with a memorable performance. Clad in black, the kwaito trio performed a beautiful cover of TKZee’s Shibobo before performing everybody’s favourite song Lebala Ka Nna.
