See-saw affair in volleyball competition

South East region beat Southern 3-2 in a Pool A match with the winners utilising their opponent’s poor serve.

The five sets were however closely contested but in the end, South East prevailed. Southern lost the first set 13-25 but improved in the second and third sets winning 25-23 and 25-22 before struggling again in the fourth and fifth.

South East won the fourth and fifth sets 25-20 and 15-4, thereby wrapping up the match.

South East’s Nadia Kolou was the most impressive player, scoring numerous points from her serve.

Lucia Sebudubudu, Kiddo Mosethane and Katlego Peloentle provided good movement and spiked well.

Kolou worked hard throughout the game, complemented by good blocks from Sebudubudu and Peloentle.

Tshiamo Sefiwa was particularly below par with her serve from Southern while Neo Keitumetse tried hard to rescue her team.

It was evident towards the end that South East were increasing the tempo as they won the final set by an impressive margin of 15-4.

South East lost their first match 3-2 to Central on Monday, but showed tremendous improvement yesterday. Southern region has lost two matches on the trot after going down 3-0 to Kweneng on Monday.

In a Pool A boys’ volleyball match, Sowa Town walloped North East region by 3-1 after giving them tough competition in the second, third and fourth sets respectively.

Sowa Town only lost the first set 25-20 but won the next three 23-13, 25-16 and 25-15 with good volleys, spikes and tosses giving their opponents a tough match throughout.

North East coach, Molefho Rapugo, blamed excessive heat for the loss pointing out the high temperatures distracted his players.
