Flamingoes have been at the top for nine weeks, but slipped to position two after a 2-2 draw against Real Movers while Hotspurs won 1-0 against Tonota FC.

Since their 3-0 drubbing away at Kazungula FC in week seven, ‘Amahot’ have been building momentum and are now on a four game unbeaten run. In the four encounters, the on-song Mahalapye outfit have scored seven goals and conceded only once.

Hotspurs manager, Kebonye Tau said it is not by fluke that his team is at the top.

“Our preparations were spot on. Our target for the first round was 21 points and we have surpassed that. It is through hard work and commitment from the whole team that we are here. The boys and the coach have a very good relationship and it is working well for us.

“Now we need to sit down and map a way forward. We see the light, and we can get automatic promotion, but we have been here before. In the past two seasons, we started well in the first round and slipped in the last quarter. Now we are going to sit down and strategise to avoid a repeat of the past seasons,” Tau said.

In other games played over the weekend, TAFIC beat Tsabothe 1-0 while GNT edged a lacklustre Palapye All Stars by the same margin. ECCO City Greens fixture against Maun Tigers and the Kazungula versus TASC were both cancelled.

“ECCO’s game against Maun Tigers was postponed because of shortage of grounds due to the on-going Botswana Games. We had initially spoken to ECCO to play the game in Maun, but they were not prepared because it was a short notice and that was reasonable enough,” League secretary general, Rapula Gaotlhobogwe said. “The Kazungula, TASC game was postponed because of the BDF Bilateral games played in Francistown over the weekend. Most of the TASC players are employees of BDF and they were compelled to compete at work. Both fixtures are re-scheduled for this coming weekend.”
