Moswaane�s motion defeated

Gaborone North Member of Parliament (MP), Haskins Nkaigwa said instead of finding the root cause to the water supply problem, Moswaane called for monitoring of the situation as a way of trying to score cheap popularity points.
Last Friday, the Francistown West MP tabled an urgent motion calling on Parliament to institute a task force to look at the water crisis in the greater Gaborone and supply the residents with water.
Parliament would not allow Moswaane to amend his motion to add that Parliament shall for a state of emergency on the water crisis in the greater Gaborone area. The motion was defeated as only Letlhakeng/Lephephe and Nata/Gweta MPs Liakat Kablay and Paulson Majaga supported it.
Nkaigwa said: “Moswaane’s motion was flawed. He is talking about monitoring the water situation in the greater Gaborone, but there is no water to monitor. He was part of the BDP MP’s who rejected motions by myself and Dr Phenyo Butale calling for investigations into what led us to the water crisis.”
He added that it was important that the water situation is investigated to determine whether issues such as replacing Water Affairs with Water Utilities Corporation could have played a part.
Nkaigwa also said Moswaane’s statement was not even genuine as he was looking to be popular, pretending to care while he indeed did not. He said Moswaane needed to know the difference between Parliament and council and handle matters appropriately not to pin his hopes on the opposition members to support him.
The Gaborone North lawmaker said it was not just a matter of opposing one from a different party: “Moswaane presents a lot of motions in Parliament. Had he brought a genuine motion, we would support him.”
Moswaane had made headlines in his bid to have the motion listened to in Parliament. He went to the extent of weeping and even calling the deputy speaker, Kagiso Molatlhegi, a 'professional liar' over the presentation of the motion to Parliament.
