Man Pees Inside the Courtroom

This followed the Chief Magistrate Rebecca Motsamai’s refusal to deny Suping a visit to the restroom.

While his co-accused, Gofaone Modukanele, was still cross-examining the Investigating Officer (IO), Suping pleaded with the magistrate to go to the bathroom but he was told that he had visited the lavatory less than an hour earlier.

“What you are doing is just trying to delay the court proceedings intentionally. I allowed you to visit the bathroom less than an hour ago.  You cannot say you want to go there again. This case has been dragging on for long. We must work and finish it in time,” said Motsamai.

Earlier, before Suping created the puddle, he had threatened to actually sit down and evacuate his bowels in court as the magistrate told him that he was delaying court proceedings by repeatedly going out.

When everyone expected him to sit for Modukanele’s cross-examination, Suping stood up, unzipped his trousers and urinated in the dock.

He had earlier warned the magistrate of his intention to  urinate right there because he was being denied the chance to go out.

He yelled: “What am I supposed to do when I want to pee and the magistrate refuses for me to go to the toilet?  I am going to urinate here. I drank a lot of water hence needing to visit the toilet frequently.”

Motsamai asked constable Denis Leburu, the officer who was in court to check if indeed the accused was urinating and he confirmed that to be the case. Immediately, a flabbergasted Motsamai paused proceedings and ordered Modukanele to continue with the cross-examination later.

Since the case started, Suping has been causing scenes as he once threw a pile of papers at the magistrate last October. He was sentenced to four strokes for the offence, which he received at Palapye Customary Court.

In other incidents, Suping used vulgar language in court throwing insults at the magistrate, prosecutors and some state witnesses. He also once accused Motsamai of being unfair to them after she refused to grant them bail for the second time. Suping and his co-accused are alleged to have robbed Sefalana Wholesales in Palapye cash valued at over P700,000  on October 3, 2012.

It is alleged that after the robbery, the accused persons went to Khurumela ward in Palapye where their grandmothers live and shared the loot equally.

The accused persons are also alleged to have bought cars from the proceeds of the Sefalana robbery and registered them under other people’s names. The trial is still ongoing with the accused representing themselves in the case. Reuben Sebetlela is the prosecutor in the matter.
