Leopard Eater In Court

The state alleges that the accused, Tom Tlhoolebe, on or about July 17, 2015 near Lobatse quarry, hunted a leopard without permit or licence or an exemption certificate authorising the same. The accused person pleaded guilty to the charge.

Appearing for the state was Sub Inspector Mishingo Kedikanetswe of Lobatse police station who said the accused plea of guilt was not expected.

“We never anticipated a plea of guilt from the accused person. We therefore request another date where the facts will be read to the accused person,” Kedikanetswe said.

In another matter, a 34-year-old man of Kgomokasitwa charged with a single count of threat to kill complained to the magistrate that he was never given fair treatment since the beginning of his case.

Gabaitsane Mokgadi said he was never given a chance to look for witnesses, but instead he was detained and arraigned before court.

“I was arrested in Kgomokasitwa and handed to Woodhall police where I was detained. I was never given a chance to look for witnesses and I was never listened to. The police told me that I am an old man who wants to kill. I am not working and coming here often costs me a lot. I want to know if I am coming here for something sensible or not,” Mokgadi said.

In response, Dipate advised Mokgadi to endure the circumstances as these are always inconveniences in all criminal cases.

“Any criminal case has lot of inconveniences. You need to prepare to endure the inconveniences until the matter is done,’’ Dipate said.

The state alleges that on October 3 at Kgomokasitwa football grounds, Mokgadi threatened to kill Tshepo Mokgadi. He is alleged to have said, “I will kill you. I will burn you in that house that you live in”.
