Snooker remains a headache for BNSC

Commonly referred to as snooker, BBC’s troubles keep mounting. It all started when BNSC cancelled BBC Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was to be held on August 29 at Mokolodi. The sport mother body cancelled the meeting after some affiliates raised misgivings over a number of administrative issues. BNSC Sport Development Director-Administration, Elsie Kenosi told Mmegi Sport that they have given up on BBC.
“We have given up on them because BBC president, Terrence Tiroyakgosi has accused us of interfering. So we advised them to go and sort themselves out in our absence. We did not give them a deadline,” Kenosi said. BBC affiliates held a Special General Meeting (SGM) last weekend after the botched AGM.
Members reportedly wrote a letter to BBC secretary general, Gofaone Kebualemang requesting for an SGM as per the requirements.
“Kebualemang did not respond to the letter. The letter was copied to BNSC and Registrar of Societies (ROS). In the aftermath of such, the affiliates followed up by acting on Article 17 of the BBC constitution, which gives them the power as the general body and agreed on scheduling an SGM last weekend,” a source said. The agenda of the SGM included amongst others, officially accepting the end of term of the current board and that its mandate has expired. It also addressed setting a date for an elective AGM, which is December 16. The source said the affiliates appointed an interim committee to prepare for the elections and it was assigned to take back BBC resources from the outgoing board.
“It is a pity that neither of the outgoing board members were present or responded to the invite let alone any communication before that despite emails and phone calls inviting them to such officially,” the source said. The source added the tension between the board and the affiliates is hurting the BBC.
“The president once stated that he would rather have BBC delisted from BNSC as he was responsible for organising its affiliation. It is absurd because he even wrote to the Registrar stating that the association does not have members, this despite the fact that according to the law, an organisation has to have at least 10 clubs registered under it,” the source said. The source added they are hoping for a smooth transition and for fair elections.
All clubs are said to have attended the SGM except Hot Cue and Central, with one club sending an apology. That means 12 out of 14 clubs were in agreement. Kebualemang said he was busy with his examinations and could only respond to questions from Mmegi Sport next week. However, he acknowledged receiving a letter from the clubs. Tiroyakgosi was unavailable for comment.
