Olopeng encouraged athletes to shun the use of performance enhancing substances and behave well. “In sport we believe that winning is a good habit. However, it should not be at all costs. Please do not be tempted to turn to performance enhancing substances, which have detrimental effect on your health and sporting career. I believe you will make the districts you represent proud of both your performances and conduct on and off the field.

These are your games and we want you to have memorable experiences. Have fun, make friends and learn from others with a view to improve your performances in the future. Learn from this experience and take something positive to your schools, clubs and communities,” he said.

Olopeng applauded the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) for having resolved to rotate the games around the country.

“This is indeed a commendable decision which is in line with government’s policy of decentralisation as well as taking programmes and projects to various parts of the country.

I also recognise the pivotal role played by the leadership of the City of Francistown and other stakeholders in facilitating and collaborating with the BNSC to ensure the successful hosting of the Games here,” Olopeng said.

Francistown mayor, Sylvia Muzila said the people of Francistown and surrounding areas have shown overwhelming support for sporting activities, which is why sport remains important for the city’s development. “I confirm that as the hosts of Botswana Games 2015 we have indeed embraced sport as an important aspect of development and social fabric. “We are proud to be hosting the fourth edition of the Botswana Games and we will extend the same support and hospitality to our guests,” Muzila said.
