Gunners Crush Choukas Hopes

Both teams, after a tough time, registered wins in their previous encounters with Motlakase shocking Gaborone United 1-0 while Gunners walloped BR Highlanders 5-0.

On Saturday, bottom-placed Motlakase started the match with guns blazing, making good forays. Gunners too started well, but missed several chances. Gunners nearly scored early as Motlakase defender, Joseph Nkgoeng fumbled in the 10th minute but the visitors could not profit. Chouka missed a good chance from Lorato Botshelo’s shot four minutes later. The team’s young defender, Thato Kebue produced a resolute perfomance as he kept out Gunners’ attacks.

But he could not do anything to prevent Gunners’ opener in the 43rd minute when Kemmy Pilato struck brilliantly.

After the break, Motlakase continued pressing but were pegged further back in the 69th minute.

Gunners coach, Daniel Nare substituted Kelelelo Kgosimore for Mogomotsi Mokoka who immediately extended Gunners lead through his first touch.

Chouka coach, Pule Mogotsi tried to react with substitutions of his own but it was all in vain.

Nare said his team will try to win the remaining matches to finish in a better position.

“Though we had a bad game, this was a good win for us because we had to show some consistency after winning against BR Highlanders last week. We had a very difficult time in our past games so we had to prove that we didn’t win our previous match by mistake,” said Nare.He said when the transfer window opens in January he shall reinforce the team to give it more balance.

Mogotsi on the other hand said Chouka will work hard in the second round to bounce back and avoid relegation.  He said his team plays well, but is unlucky to score.

“The boys are creating good chances and only become nervous when they reach the posts, thus leading to failure to take the right decisions. But we are still hopeful,” he said.
