Chiefs back to winning ways

The game began at a high pace, with Senatla Molefhe posing threat to the visitors’ defence. He dribbled past the Galaxy defence in the second minute, but shot wide.

Magosi were dominant as the first half wore on, stretching Philani Mabhena’s side across the pitch and pressing them into their own half.

Kagiso Molapi and Boitumelo Mafoko stood between Chiefs and the opener and Galaxy bounced back into the game.

Kenanao ‘Flo’ Kgetholetsile tested Mompoloki ‘Wrist’ Sephekolo several times, but could not find the net.

Chiefs’ response was immediate as they caught Galaxy on the counter and Molefhe’s in swinger was almost turned in as it caused confusion in the box. Kgetholetsile was cautioned for handling the ball as he attempted to clear. Magosi were awarded a penalty in the 14th minute, but Kaelo Kgaswane hit the crossbar.

Magosi found the opener through Keaketswe ‘Mara’ Moloi who fired from within the box in the 42nd minute.

Galaxy fought gallantly in the second half, but were forced into making a substitution when Molefhe dangerously ploughed into Tebogo Moroka who had to be pulled out for Mosimanegape Ngongorego.

Galaxy continued to attack, but the Magosi defence was firm. Substitute, Tebogo Sembowa further breathed life into his side’s attack.

Galaxy eventually brought parity in the 85th minute through Olebogeng Malebye who struck low after a corner. With the game headed for a stalemate, there was drama at the end when Chiefs won a second penalty after Kagiso Molapi was adjudged to have fouled Onalethata Tshekiso. Jwaneng Galaxy’s Boitumelo Mafoko was shortly cautioned and immediately shown a red card for protesting the penalty decision. Jackie Mothatego then sent Antony Gouws the wrong way to give Magosi victory right at the death.
