The group will perform alongside some of the region’s biggest stars including Nathi, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbuli, Tshepo Tshola, The Soil, Oliver Mtukudzi, Jaziel Brothers, Bhudaza.

The Botswana act is billed to serenade South Africans with hits like Robete, Thaa Kokome, Ke Boletsa Mongwe and Botengteng.

“This is a great opportunity to have a piece of the South African market. All of South Africa will have descended on Mahikeng that weekend,” Sereetsi said.

The gig comes at a time when Sereetsi & the Natives is looking to grow its international gig schedule.

“We are happy that all the pieces seem to be falling into place. We are really focused on gigging internationally and the interest across the border has been mind blowing,” he added. Sereetsi & the Natives also hopes to use the gig for networking on industry issues and finding international touring agents.

“We are taking the gig seriously. This is not to say that we won’t have fun. We are going to really play our regular set and ensure that we make it fun for ourselves as much as is possible. That has been our secret - to have as much fun as is possible while working. We have the best job in the world,” Sereetsi said.

The outing follows an international festival showing in Durban in October where Sereetsi & the Natives performed with South African musicians and hosted a guitar workshop for the academic community that attended the International Council of Traditional Music conference at the University of KwaZulu Natal.
