Gaolaolwe extended the contract on Monday, which was to end by next June. He joined Matebele last season from BMC, now Gilport Lions.

“I am enjoying my stay here. The environment is good for me as a player hence I decided to extend my stay.  I have good teammates and we are always free to advise each other,” Gaolaolwe said after penning an extension.

His coach, Beston Chambeshi was thrilled to keep his star defender and foresees a great future for the national team player.   He hailed Gaolaolwe as one of the players who are committed to the game and always willing to learn.

“He loves the team and I appreciate what he is doing for the team.

He is very committed and if he continues to work hard, I foresee a very bright future for him in football,” he said.  Fanta has not only been an integral part of the squad for his team, but also at the national team.  He was introduced into the senior national team by Peter Butler and has since cemented a place at the heart of the defence.

He recently helped BDF XI eliminate Gaborone United in the Mascom Top 8 with a man-of-the-match performance in the second leg of the quarterfinals.

BDF XI patron, Peter Tapela expressed delight at both the club and the management for successfully agreeing to a new deal. “This is a good move.  We would like to see you grow as a player and will be happy to see you playing in bigger leagues in the near future.

I would like to see you emulate the likes of Marumo (Modiri),” he said.

He said Gaolaolwe’s commitment to BDF XI comes at a time when the club has in the past lost several key players to other local clubs.  The players, he said, played for just one season at their new clubs only to fade away in the following seasons.

“Players have to think carefully about their future.  We cannot match some of the offers coming from other clubs of course, but our aim is to see our players grow bigger,” he said.
