Francistown councillors recently passed a motion to request the association to open an office in the second city.

Tabling the motion, Francistown specially nominated councillor Modiri Lucas said the city contributes a lot to the coffers of the association, particularly through hosting national team matches.

For this reason, he said that opening an office in the city will be one way of rewarding the people of Francistown for loyalty they have shown to the association over the years.

“The commissioning of the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium has also led to many football activities in the city. This in my view is a strong indication that the association has to open offices in the city to coordinate and support such activities,” Lucas noted.

He also said that opening an office in the city will be one way of decentralising services offered by the association, especially coordination of development programmes and reaching out to affiliates.

BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti said he will familiarise himself with the motion first but did not rule out the idea.

“I have not been made aware of the motion, but I cannot totally rule out the possibility that we can explore opening an office in Francistown. We can open an office in Francistown if it is worth it to do so,” he said.

“I will have to engage my committee and other relevant stakeholders on the motion before a determination is made, but I don’t want to say much because I am yet to familiarise myself with the FCC motion.”

Calls for the association to open the office in Francistown gained traction during the build up to the BFA elective congress nearly three months ago.

Then, Tebogo Sebego’s lobby group made a promise to open an office in Francistown in a bid to enhance the running of the game in the city.

Sebego was vying for the BFA presidency, but lost to incumbent Letshwiti. Many members of his lobby group also lost the elections with exception of one candidate Carlos Sebina who was voted in as an additional member.

In the past some members of the Francistown Regional Association (FRAFA) have openly pleaded with the association to open an office in the second city.
