Bots U-17 girls Nipped

Esalenna Galekhutle laid a pass to Lesego Radiakanyo, but the latter skewed her shot.

Kamogelo Omphile then made a goal line after Ashely Solomos chipped over advancing keeper in the 14th minute.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 34th minute through  Kylie Van Wyk who chipped the ball over the goalkeeper who was out of the goal lines.

The home team equalised in the dying minutes of the first half when Radiakanyo capitalised from a scramble in the box after the keeper failed to clear a cross from the right. The visitors conceded numerous freekicks in front of the area, but the local girls failed to capitalise. Ignacio Haoses scored the winner at the far post with only five minutes to half time. Namibia survived a penalty scare after Leungo Senwelo was brought down in the box in the dying minutes of the game.

Namibian coach, Mervin Mbakera praised his team’s character and expressed happiness to walk away with a win. “We will remain humble until the job is done. We showed character. It was difficult to lift the players up after Botswana scored,” he said.

His counterpart Botswana coach, Olorilwe Mogapi acknowledged the team has a mammoth task to overturn the score in the second leg. “We have a difficult job in Namibia. We only have a week to prepare for the encounter,” he said.
