Ngwao Summer Festival expecated to bring cultures together

The festival, which will bring together different people in Palapye and Botswana as a whole, is expected to be a thriller.
Among other people who shall be showcasing their culture in terms of food, music and dance, there will also be foreigners including Chinese, Indians and Muslims who are also expected to show their culture on the day.
The main aim of the festival is to kill the idea of stereotype among the people and change their mindsets, First Class Events director, Refilwe Ngwenya said.
She said: “The idea is to bring the diverse people of Palapye together and make them appreciate each other, regardless of colour, tribe and culture. Palapye is developing, hence attracting people of different cultures. So we want to create a bond between Batswana and foreigners in this country”.
“We have asked some Chinese people from Morupule B to also have a stall during the festival where they will also showcase their clothes and food and Batswana will have an opportunity of tasting such,” said Ngwenya.
Ngwenya also revealed that the festival welcomes all age groups.
Elderly people will be teaching the youth and children about the culture of Botswana.
She said they have invited elderly people like Dikgosi and others in Palapye and surrounding villages. Serowe blood donation office has also been invited to the event.
“We found the need to invite the blood donation team to the festival so that they can encourage people to donate blood since we are approaching the festive season, which is normally characterised by road accidents.
Hence a need for more blood,” she said. She further said that they are expecting a high turnout since it is the first time Palapye organises such an event. She said they wish to make it an annual event since there is no other that explores cultures in Palapye.
Other activities at the event are Setswana games including morabaraba, dikarata, diketo and koi. According to Ngwenya there will also be a kids’ corner.
The event is sponsored by Botlhokwa Products (which manufactures bricks), Camp Itumela, ABC Continental Group and First Class Events.
