Panem revolts reach Armageddon

This film is a 2015 book adaptation of an American Sci-Fi war film based on the multimillion dollar selling Hunger Games trilogy, authored by Suzanne Collins. It concludes the adventures that began in 2012 with The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire the following year and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 last year. This epic global blockbuster of The Hunger Games arrives at its powerful ending of the battle between good and evil through which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) now fully realises. The stakes are no longer just for survival, they are for the future. With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss Everdeen confronts villain capitol President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in this final showdown with District 13 President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore) also with intentions of her own.
Accompanied by a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Katniss goes off mission using the unit from District 13 risking their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who is increasingly obsessed with destroying her. However, the mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.
Consistency is the norm in sequels, in this one the protagonists and villains are still the same characters the notable change is the battle reaches new frontiers. Director Francis Lawrence takes pride in having directed the last three Hunger Games editions, whilst new TV hit series Empire screenplay writer Danny Strong gives Mockingjay Part 2 that extra edge. Mockingjay Part 1 was rather a bit less eventful as compared to this one. Rather, it was filled with too much suspense in the build up to Part 2.
Mockingjay Part 2 is sure to leave a mark as it is currently doing at box office. It has a broad appeal aspect one can enjoy from so many elements/themes of revenge, tragic love story, power struggle and so forth. This is because the way the screen writers brought about the manipulations plus twists and turns of the movie making it very eventful to earn its blockbuster status.
For instance Katniss’ motive for revenge against Snow for dozens of reasons including his obsession to kill her including what Snow did to her boyfriend, Peeta, got the cinemas filled to the rafters.
It blew me away because Katniss (Lawrence) turns bad. She plots to kill Snow for all the pandemonium he causes for Panem. However, like all villains have a way of making our action heroes suffer. Snow retaliates and his defence with pods (booby traps for the insurgents) is quite epic. In particular, one scene that scared me to death is when Snow released his genetically-engineered creatures called ‘mutts’ into the tunnels to hunt the Mockingjay.
The mutts are viscious blood thirsty hounds that give Mockingjay Part 2 a bit of that horrific element as they leave Katniss’ unit of fighters in a bloodbath. It is quite a zombie adrenalin rush that brings to mind similar scary movie creatures from World War Z and The Maze Runner: Scotch Trials frights.
This film was also nice because of the deceits and manipulations. Snow has over and over tried to kill Katniss and her rebellion from giving the slaves a voice. But it is very funny when Snow almost shows signs of affection towards Katniss as he gathers news that she is still alive.
Quite shocking as to the fact that he cared for his fiercest enemy!
This final chapter brings out all the dirty laundry into the open. In spite of her allegiance to the Mockingjay, it is quite thrilling to discover as to how President Alma Coin (Moore) has been playing both Snow and Katniss. Coin seems to have been framing Snow to some of Panem’s turmoil including the ruthless bombing of children all in pursuit of power to shift in her favour.
The film encapsulates cliches such as ‘keep your friends close and your enemies closer’ as it shows that friends do not always have good intentions for you. This film follows in the footsteps of other films that have showed pandemonium or hostile change such as World War Z, Olympus Has Fallen, The Dark Knight through which our protagonists battle against villains that have no mercy for innocent lives.
The cinematography makes the film almost flawless. It is super crisp futuristic, with top notch gadgets such as holographic map called Holo, which detects dangerous booby traps from Snow.
Even the booby traps themselves are way cooler with black ooze (oil with spikes) to ground chopping land mine grinder surfaces.
The only downer about the film is the pace and energy. It tends to be too slow at times in the build-up to events.
The box office belongs to Mockingjay Part 2 this week as the rebellious insurgent took power after opening with $102 million premiere sales.
They annihilated the movie’s $160 million dollar budget already as Mockingjay has generated a staggering$255.7 million in just four days from its release date. It seems destined to do well like other big 2015 movies such as Fast and Furious 7 and Jurassic World that grossed well over a billion.

For this eventful experience I award it an 8.5 out of 10. It almost reached that legendary awesome movie pinnacle status.
