Motlakase part ways with Moyo

Former Motlakase chairperson, Mangisi Segadimo introduced Moyo as Motlakase coach mid September this year and was then expected to start working a fortnight following his introduction.
Segadimo confirmed the former Letlapeng coach had signed a one-year performance-based contract with an option of renew. Team manager, Abel Lebopo confirmed the departure of Moyo and in a twist said they had never had a formal agreement with the latter.
Lebopo said: “We have never employed Moyo. He showed interest to our previous advert and we thought he could help us; therefore we called him here for talks.
We had a verbal agreement but since he is a foreigner there were certain labour requirements that we should have met and we failed to meet them on the stipulated period of time so he never really worked with us, hence he never sat on our bench let alone train the team.
“We are putting up an advert in the near future and it is open to everyone including Moyo. There is no bad blood and he will stand a better advantage because he was here with us and we shared ideas, but I will say it will be open to all.”
Moyo confirmed his departure. “I had a one year contract with Motlakase that I signed on the first of November, but unfortunately we have parted ways. I was told that the team does not have funds to process my work permit and they also do not have money to pay my salary anymore.
After being told that I could not continue with them, I have decided to come home to my family in Francistown.
“However for the time I was with the team I was paid but now that they say they don’t have money, I wonder if they would be able to pay off the rest of the contract. Even though I could not work because of the paperwork, I have assisted the team in the last six games where we managed two draws and a win. I was looking forward to transforming the team even though it was tough but unfortunately that is what panned out.”
Meanwhile, Motlakase has appointed Gaolathe Kelesitse as the new chairman replacing Segadimo who has been at the helm for the past five years.
According to Segadimo, Motlakase as a team that is solely run by directors, has a standing agreement that the chairmanship will be rotated among the directors.
“Motlakase has three directors and the agreement is each director will have a one year tenure as chairman and the chairmanship will be rotated. I have been chairman for a long time now but that is simply because my colleagues were engaged somewhere else, now that they are here things will fall back in place but I am still a director,” Segadimo said.
Kelesitse confirmed the appointment and said the transition was done in good faith and he is working with the former chairman to see how best they could turn their luck around and address the financial challenges.
“We have been financially challenged and we realised that running the team from the coffers of directors alone is not sustainable therefore we are looking at how we can strategise and commercialise the team so we get partners that can help us sustain the team,” he said.
Kelesitse added their strategies had lapsed and they were looking at developing new ways and reviving the culture of Motlakase.
“We are looking at introducing a five-year developmental strategy that will instill the culture of developing players back into the team and have players who grow with our traditions,” he said.
“Of course we also have a short-term survival strategy, we need to see how we rescue our season and maintain our spot in the league.”
