Lobelo to host final motorcross race

LRCF’s Lola Berrie said the event will begin with the junior motorcross training run with focus on the famous D’artagnan Lobjoit at 8 am followed by practice sessions with the official race starting at 11 am.
Berrie said the track was prepared by LRCF with the equipment and machinery sponsored by Becor Bricks. She added that entries had been received from riders such as Ross Branch and D’artagnan Lobjoit as well as locals’ favourites Kagiso Stephens, Douglas Morris, James Morris, Clayton Davis and Wayne Berrie.
All these riders took part in the Motorcross of African Nations in Zimbabwe. She said organisers included the women’s class in the list of entries, which is the first for Botswana Motorcross.
“It brings me more joy to see women coming forward to join a male dominated sport which is the fastest growing sectors in the country,” she said. She said the junior motorcross riders were also growing and at this race, people were expected to see their local future champions such as Amaan Parekh, Aryan Parekh, Nathan Berrie, Tristan Berrie, Matthew Derrick, Deegan Davis, Cody David and a few from outside Botswana who will battle it out in the circuit.
She said LRCF created two novice classes, one for the senior riders and one for the junior riders as a way of modifying their race.
Berrie said the junior riders would participate in the ‘oval circuit’ where it is flat and easy to learn, ride and be part of the day’s event.
The LRCF held two Botswana Motor Sport (BMS) motorcross nationals this year. There were good entries and a high level of spectator support.
“We hope that the public will turn in their numbers again as they have previously done and enjoy the massive entertainment that the motorcross events have delivered in the past,” she said.
Berrie said in an effort to raise more funds to develop the motor sport in Botswana, LCRF will be auctioning off three canvass prints which will show the highlights of the year in both motorcross and off road racing.
She expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the event, Becor Bricks, Security Services, Skip Hire, Motor Holdings Francistown, Mr Move, Hansa Flex, Emergency Assist and Minetech Marshals.
