The group performed the song in front of an approving audience at Motswako Invasion last weekend. The group of rappers is made up of Baxon, Young T, Sonorous, Kheza Matofane, Scoophy, Menteqi, Crack, DMK and Zoid.  Speaking to Showbiz about the new anthem, Donald ‘Dawn’ Kgosi said he came up with the concept because he wanted all the upcoming artists in Mochudi to get together on one track.  “After coming up with the idea, I talked to a producer and he agreed to make a beat,” he said.  Dawn further said the recording was done for free at DHS Studio in order to give the upcoming artists a platform to market their talents.

“After the producer agreed to my idea, we spread the word and invited all upcoming artists from Mochudi to come to the studio and drop their verses,” he said.

According to Dawn, more than 16 artists came to DHS to drop their verses.

Dawn said after the recording he took it upon himself to listen to all the verses and chose the artists who are good enough to make the final cut.  “It took me two weeks and in the end I remained with 10 artists,” he said. Dawn indicated that it was difficult to choose because everyone was equally talented. He said many people do not want to get involved in the selection process.  Dawn said after finishing the song they released it on social media and other media platforms. “It’s on the official40 countdown chart on Yarona FM and the response has been positive,” he said.

Dawn said people have been requesting the song and it is available for free download in file sharing websites.  He was, however, quick to point out that some people in Mochudi felt that they were not consulted when the song was made.

“Other producers wanted input, but they voiced their concerns after the song was released, they should have told us before,” he said.  Dawn indicated that they intend to make an EP in the future. He said the group has been performing at big shows for free as a marketing strategy. “It’s a good lesson for everyone because we get to seek advice from the big artists in the game,” he said.

The artist from Mochudi said he intends to create an artists management company.

“I want to continue working with upcoming talent. We have a lot of talent locally and they need exposure,” he said.

He announced that they have finished working on the video for Mochudi Anthem and it would be released in two weeks’ time.
